Zoo Request

REMINDER: The Lehigh Valley Zoo is taking donation for their annual fund raiser auction. In past years, club members have donated photographic works for the auction. We will be collecting donation at our next meeting, SEP. 20 for delivery to the zoo. Please come to the meeting and consider bringing a donation. BTW, they do not require the work to be from their zoo or even an animal. Any artwork you feel would raise money for their cause is suggested.

Our next regular meeting is Thursday, September 20th and we’re starting the Fall speaker schedule off with a fantastic local wildlife photographer, Axel Hildebrandt.

Axel Hildebrandt is one of the finest bird photographers in America today. Axel grew up in East Germany. After the fall of the Wall he studied in Berlin and moved to the U.S. in the late nineties. He completed his graduate work in German Studies and has been teaching at the college level at Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA for the past several years.

Axel learned photography when he was a young man, and rekindled his enthusiasm after purchasing his first DSLR to photograph his favorite subjects, birds. He quickly rose through the ranks learning from and working with bird photographers like Art Morris, Al and Fab Forns and many others. Axel spent several years as a Super Moderator on the Birds Forum on Bird Photographers Net. You can often find him working along the coastline of Sandy Hook (NJ) and Long Island (NY) looking for that perfect bird shot. How perfect? Just take a look at his work.  More of his images can be found here: http://500px.com/axelhildebrandt

Axel’s presentation is over; however, you can see more of his images at this link.

A Deep Loss for the LVPC and Our Community

The Lehigh Valley Photography Club mourns the loss of Shirley Lindgren wife of photography lover, club member and friend, Ralph Lindgren. Many of you are aware that Ralph and Shirley were victims of an assault on August 21st.  Shirley passed away as a result of injuries suffered in the assault. Ralph was also seriously injured. His condition, first listed as critical, has now been upgraded to serious. Our prayers go out to the whole family. A tragedy.

Ralph and Shirley have been active in the Bethlehem Garden Club and the Bethlehem Historic District Association. In addition to being founding members of the Bethlehem Special Olympics, they have also taken care of the city’s Garden of Serenity next to the Bethlehem Area Public Library for more than 20 years.

Shirley Lindgren was a former Bethlehem Area School Board member who, along with Ralph, helped found the Bethlehem Special Olympics. Shirley Lindgren was inducted into Pennsylvania Special Olympics Hall of Fame last year.  Shirley also served regularly as a poll worker during elections.

Ralph is a founding member of our club.  He is well known within the LVPC for his dedication in mentoring others and as coordinator of our FotoFeedback Program.  Ralph is also a member of the Hillcrest Camera Club.  During past meetings, Ralph has led discussions on subjects including macro photography, flower photography, and infrared photography. Ralph Lindgren,  a retired Lehigh University professor, taught philosophy during his tenure.  Ralph Lindgren had recently taken the helm at the newly-formed Bethlehem Human Relations Commission. Deb Hunter, the vice chairwoman of the city’s human relations commission, called Ralph Lindgren a devotedly fair person. “He’s probably one of the most considerate and thoughtful people I’ve ever met. He really wants to just do things right. He was very serious and very deliberate in leading us in this new commission.”

We pray for Ralph’s recovery and for the soul of his dear wife, Shirley.
