The December 15 meeting features Bird Photography by Axel Hildebrandt. The meeting will be held in the Banko Room at the Banana Factory at 7:00PM. Non-members will be asked to pay $10.00 to attend LVPC meetings with featured speakers. \. Axel Hildebrandt is one of the few bird photographers who is particularly interested in taking pictures of birds in flight. Axel grew up in East Germany. After the fall of the Berlin Wall he studied in at the Humboldt University Berlin and moved to Massachusetts in the late nineties where he completed his Ph.D. in German Studies. He has been teaching at the college level at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts and since 2008 at Moravian College in Bethlehem where he is an Associate Professor of German.
Axel learned photography when he was a young man, and rekindled his enthusiasm after purchasing his first DSLR in 2005 to photograph his favorite subjects, birds near his home in Northampton, Massachusetts. He quickly rose through the ranks learning from and working with other bird photographers. Axel also spent several years moderating the Birds Forum on Bird Photographers Net. You can often find him very early in the morning working along the coastline of New Jersey and Long Island looking for that perfect bird shot.
