COVERED BRIDGE PARK
2465 Wehr Mill Road, Allentown PA
For photographic opportunities, you will not get more bang-for-your-buck than with the Covered Bridge Park. Just off RT. 309, north of Allentown, you will find two covered bridges, a weir, creek, foot bridge and paved and unpaved hiking/biking trails. Wehr's bridge and the weir are right at the main parking area. The second bridge, Guth's bridge, can be accessed on foot from the main parking area, but there are no trails linking to it; you will need to walk across a couple of soccer fields, or you may elect to drive to it.
This is a spot I can imagine returning to during different times of the year, or different times of the day, to get a variety of seasonal pictures or varying effects from changes in the light.
West of Covered Bridge Park is a paved trail that runs between Wehr Mill Road and RT. 309; approximately 0.85 mi long. This is part of what will be the Jordan Creek Greenway. A 14 mile multi-use trail that will connect many regional parks from Allentown to the Trexler Game Preserve. Parks that will be included in the plan are Jordan Park, Jordan Creek Parkway, Covered Bridge Park and the Trexler Nature Preserve.
The Covered Bridge Park has picnic areas, sporting fields, frisbee golf, an extensive playground (under construction) and plenty of parking and porta-potties.
The only negative I can come up with are the high voltage power lines over the weir, just west of Wehr's bridge. You will need to be diligent with your framing, spend time cloning them out in post processing, or just live with them.
