Karl Stirner Arts Trail

The
Karl Stirner Arts Walk
is a pleasant hike with plenty to look at and photograph. It is a two mile stretch that parallels Rt. 22, northwest of Easton. It ends at the base of the hill below the Lafayette College campus. The main trail is paved, but there is also a short, unpaved nature trail that brings you closer to the Bushkill Creek and an abandoned railroad trestle. The formal trail head is on the west end of the trail, with a fairly small parking lot. I have gone there several times as I put together this blog, all during the week, and always got a parking spot. Although, there was one time that I got the last available spot. If you ever find the lot full you should be able to find parking at the
Simon Silk Mill
. From there you can take a lovely foot bridge over to the Arts Trail. There are no modern facilities or porta potties at the parking lot or along the trail.
The Karl Stirner Arts Walk is part of the
The Link Trail Network
, which offers over 125 miles of trails from the urban areas of Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton to suburban and rural landscapes across 62 municipalities in Lehigh and Northampton Counties. More than 100 additional miles are planned for future completion.
I highly recommend the Karl Stirner Arts Trail. You can easily wander around for one, two, even three hours or more without running out of things to see and shoot. Although the late afternoon sun can be beautiful for photography, there is enough open shade from the trees and rolling landscape that you can get great opportunities any time of day.
