Intentional Camera Movement, Beyond the Handshake

Ellen Anon
Intentional Camera Movement:  Beyond the Handshake

November 16 @ 7:00 PM ET via Zoom

There was a time when the goal in photography was to use the shortest fastest exposure possible to freeze the moment and avoid movement from any source, whether the camera or the subject. The goal was to capture tack sharp frozen split seconds of time. Photographers go to all sorts of lengths to get faster and faster images, from very fast expensive lenses, to higher and higher ISOs that enable faster shutter speeds to make this possible. And images made this way can be lovely. But that isn’t the only way to take compelling images.

By intentionally moving a camera either during a long exposure or by combining multiple shots into a single image, with the camera moving between each shutter release, it’s possible to create captivating and artistic images of almost anything, that may be even more expressive than “normal” shots. In this talk Ellen Anon will cover a variety of ways to create memorable images incorporating camera movement. She’ll include ways to create a multiple-exposure effect during image capture even if your camera lacks the ability to do so automatically, as well as post-processing options.
