with your printed work at the Allentown Art Museum.

2025 FOCUS Exhibition at the Allentown Art Museum

Lehigh Valley Photography Club proudly hosts
the 8th annual juried exhibition of members' photography in the Community Gallery at the Allentown Art Museum.  The FOCUS Exhibition will run Sunday, June 1 – Sunday, June 29 during museum hours and is expected to be visited by more than 5,000 people.  Click on the following link for information about visiting the Exhibition.

There will be an opening reception on Sunday, June 1 from 1:00 PM-3:30 PM at the Community Gallery of the Allentown Art Museum. All members and one guest are invited, registration is required.  Click on the following link for additional details and to register.

FOCUS Exhibition Reception


The club wants to encourage and support the breath of the photography pursued by its members, so this year’s exhibit includes the following judging categories:
1. Abstract – includes multiple exposures, Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), images that stray from reality, line, form and color. (Subtle or strong textures and filters permitted)
2. Botanical - Includes flowers, trees, fungi and plants in general as the main subject. (Subtle textures and filters permitted)
3. Landscape - includes trees, mountainscapes, seascapes. (Hand of man permitted, subtle textures and filters permitted, composites and sky replacements NOT permitted)
4. Man-made - includes cities, buildings, cars, interiors. (Subtle textures and filters permitted)
5. Open - includes digital art, still life, any subject heavily enhanced. (Subtle or strong textures and filters permitted)
6. People - includes portraits, candids, models, kids. (Subtle textures and filters permitted)
7. Street - includes the capture of people involved in their daily lives in a city, street or beach setting. These captures are almost always candid in nature and are usually accidental or chance encounters. (Subtle or strong textures and filters NOT permitted)
8. Wildlife – includes mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, insects as the main subject. (Hand of man NOT permitted, subtle textures and filters NOT permitted)
AI sharpening, noise reduction and cloning are permitted in all categories. The Selection Committee can modify categories in order to best fit images and may reassign images to another category that best reflects the subject matter of a selected image.
Awards provided by the club and show sponsors will be presented to the winning artists.

DETAILS ON ENTERING AND JUDGING

Submission Criteria

  • Must be a Lehigh Valley Photography Club member in good standing at the time of entry and the exhibit
  • Each member may submit up to five image uploads with entry fee
  • Digital editing and manipulation are allowed, however the final product must originate from your own photographic image
  • There is no theme for this exhibit (tasteful nudity is allowed)
  • Images that have exhibited in previous LVPC exhibitions are not allowed

Image Entry

  • Entry deadline is the End Of Day Sunday, March 30.
  • Registration is $25.00 through March 17, afterwards $35.00.
  • Images must be correctly sized, named, and uploaded for consideration. For full details go to the FOCUS Image Submission Details posting on the Event Calendar.

Category Selection

  • You may submit to more than one category.
  • You may submit a single image to more than one category. Each of those submissions will count as an upload. For example, if you submit one image to three categories, that counts as three of your five uploads. The judging committee will determine the most appropriate category for the image (assuming it is selected).

Criteria for Selection and Judging

Six factors will be considered in reviewing images:

  • Conforms to Category
  • Originality
  • Technical Excellence
  • Composition
  • Artistic Merit
  • Overall Impact

Image Selection and Notification

  • Images will be down-selected for the exhibit by a member-only committee
  • Members will be notified the week of March 30 regarding acceptance and will receive necessary forms with further details
  • Up to 100 images will be selected
  • Accepted work must match the submitted image file; work that doesn't will not be hung.

Judging

  • Exhibition photographs will be judged by a group of photographers.
  • Judges will select the “Best of” for each category noted above, as well as “Best of Show”
