Night at the Museum

January 21 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$30

Registrations are closed for this event

The National Museum of Industrial History (abbreviated NMIH), housed in the former facility of Bethlehem Steel, is a museum affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution that seeks to preserve, educate, and display the industrial history of the nation. It holds a collection of artifacts from the textile, steel and iron, and propane gas industries.

Portable Steam Engines, such as this one made by the Frick Company in 1877, powered a chair-making plant, creating about 2,400 chairs a year. The National Museum of Industrial History contains more than 200 industrial artifacts. (Marlee Deutsch/B&W Staff)

During this shoot, we will have private access to the museum to photograph these rare and amazingly preserved antiques of industry. We have a full two hours to explore the museum and shoot close up and detailed photographs of the gears, levers, name plates, valves, etc. that have so much character. If you would like, of course you can also shoot wider angle images of the subjects. As the museum is loaded with artifacts, we believe a lens that allows a shallow depth of field is optimum for this shoot. While not a workshop, we will have Club members around to advise you on composition and help you get the right exposure.

SPECIAL NOTE ON REGISTRATION: We are having technical difficulties with some email notifications. If you do not receive an acknowledgement, but your Paypal payment goes through, you are registered in the system!

Equipment Recommended:  While any lens will work, macro lenses and lenses with f/stops of 2.8 to 4 are recommended. You will need to bring a tripod. To get the best, low ISO shots we recommend you use either the camera timer or a cable release. An off camera flash or LED light may also be beneficial to create drama in your photos.

Clothing Recommended:  Comfortable clothing for temperatures from 60 to 75 are recommended. This shoot will be indoors but older buildings can be drafty.

Physical Difficulty:  Easy, we will be indoors on level paved flooring.
